I remember when i first began as an Emergency Locksmith and i was under my apprenticeship, my employer sent me to an ordinary lock out. When i arrived, the customer was in the lobby and a security guard was present. So being that i was not familiar with all the regulations and was not taught the proper rules and regulations in regards to lockout procedure i attempted to pick the locks. Now keep in mind that the customer that called for assistance was a registered nurse at Brookdale hospital located in Brooklyn New York. Now Keep In Mind that she produced identification. What i failed to do is match up the mail to her hospital id which did not have an address. I assumed that a registered nurse and security at the front door was more then enough to prove satisfactory proof of occupancy, little did i know that i was wrong! As i attempted to open the door a neighbor walked from his apartment, into the hallway and dialed the police. Now keep in mind that I'm on this job for no more then one or two weeks and i am completely oblivious as what to do next. My next move obviously was to discontinue my activity until the proper authorities arrive. It turns out that the nurse was attempting to illegally enter her daughters residency because of a family dispute and despite the relationship it was still against the law. Thankfully i did not drill any locks because if i had i too would have been arrested as the mother was charged with attempted breaking and entering. Emergency Locksmith work comes with great responsibility and is not something to be taken lightly.
