Forget London, Birmingham’s where it’s at this summer

March 22, 2012 - PRLog -- With the Olympics and the Queen’s Jubilee taking place this year, all eyes will be on London in 2012.  But the UK’s second city is going to be buzzing with loads of great activities if events in the capital don’t take your fancy.

The heart of events in Birmingham is, of course, the National Exhibition Centre which hosts over 160 exhibitions each year, welcoming 2.5 million visitors annually.

Budding Tiger Woods and Padraig Harringtons will be interested in the National Golf Show from April 20 to 22 which will include everything you need to know about the sport. You’ll be able to get top tips on the best club for you, health and nutrition info to get the best results and the chance to investigate the best travel destinations for golfing breaks.  

This is the sixth year the event has been running and will feature celebrity guests and a range of expert speakers – so definitely something for everyone with an interest in golf.  Tickets cost £12 per adult, £18 for two or £48 for a group of six.  One child under 14 is admitted free when accompanied by an adult ticket holder.

On a completely different tack, expectant parents will want to visit the NEC for The Baby Show from May 18 to 20. Hosted by Clarion events, the exhibition will allow mums and dads-to-be to test items from an enormous range of baby and maternity products, many of which aren’t available on the high street. In June, celebrity chefs James Martin and the Hairy Bikers will be showing off their culinary skills at Good Food Show from the 13th to the 17th.  The fun will include demonstrations and shopping opportunities, while your ticket will also give you free access to BBC Gardeners’ World Live. So if you’ve got a love for the kitchen as well as green fingers you can’t go wrong!  Tickets cost from £19.75 for adults, £17.75 for over 65s with other concessions for children.

There are also loads of music events taking place at the NEC over the next few months.  If you enjoy blues, head to the centre on March 31 to see Joe Bonamassa, who has been championed by Eric Clapton and has won a plethora of awards for his prowess on the blues guitar.  Blink 182 and Nicky Minaj are performing in June, while closer to Christmas you can see Peter Andre and the Bootleg Beatles – something to suit every taste throughout the year.

There are many great hotels near the NEC, whether you’re on a budget or are happy to splash the cash. So if you’re visiting from outside the area you’ll be sure to find somewhere to lay your head after a busy day at The Baby Show or a fun night out watching Joe Bonamassa.
