Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort Delivers Top Regional Athletes to Hundreds of Spectators

March 19, 2012 - PRLog -- Las Vegas—Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort (LVSSR) hosted The Strip Gets Lit Up, a nighttime snowboard competition and party on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012. The contest kicked off at 6 p.m. and drew hundreds of spectators as well as top athletes from Nevada and California who competed for a cash purse and other prizes. Athletes tested their skills on urban skatepark-inspired terrain park features engineered specifically for the event.

The mountain was “lit up” using a unique lighting technology developed specifically for ski and snowboard races by Slope Lights, a Las Vegas-based firm that has provided lighting for contests like the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colo.

The features developed for the contest took LVSSR’s park crew roughly 240 man-hours to design, wield and install. Features include a 12-stair handrail with a 10-foot ledge, concrete barricades and a replica of the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign. The features will remain in the terrain park.

“Our goal was to challenge the athletes and provide both the snowboarders and the crowd with a top-notch competition experience,” says Josh Bean, LVSSR’s slope maintenance manager and the lead designer of the park’s features. “Given the capabilities of our crew and our partners like Slope Lights, this event will continue to evolve and gain the attention of athletes around the region, as well as inspire the talented riders that we have in Las Vegas,” says Bean, who was named a 2011 30 Under 30 honoree by Ski Area Management magazine for his work at LVSSR.

One of the standout local athletes that Bean points to is Amanda Propst, a graduate of Bonanza High School in Las Vegas, who is currently ranked No. 5 nationally in snowboard cross for women and No. 1 in the San Gabriel region.  She was the only female in the competition, which included a qualifying round and a finals round. Athletes were judged on landing, difficulty and style.
