March 16, 2012 - PRLog -- It's time for Thousand Oaks, Moorpark and Santa Rosa Valley parents to register their kids for a variety of YMCA summer camps offered  at the Conejo Valley YMCA   (4031 N. Moorpark Rd., Thousand Oaks). The theme this year is "Creating Lasting Friendships."

"The Y provides specially designed camps for children in kindergarten through eighth grade," says Jennifer Silveria, summer camp director at the Conejo Valley Y. "YMCA summer camp is a tradition that dates back more than 100 years. It's all about learning skills, developing character, making friends and, of course, having fun."

Conejo YMCA day camp runs from June 4 through August 24. Campers can attend full or part time.

Explorer Camp is for children entering kindergarten through second grades. Each week will include swimming, water play, hiking, sports, arts and crafts, group games and age appropriate weekly field trips.

Challenger Camp is for campers entering third through fifth grades. Campers will participate in small group games, swimming, archery and science and nature projects. The camp travels locally three times each week to such places such as the beach, parks, museums and water parks.

Teen Extreme Camp is for campers entering sixth through eighth grades. Campers go on daily field trips including trips to the beach, a Dodger game and Knott's Soak City.

Base Camp is a camp for campers entering grades kindergarten through fifth grade. It's a non-traveling camp held on-site at the Conejo Y. Campers will enjoy arts and crafts, the Y's climbing wall, archery, sports, games, water play, dress up days and daily swimming.

Counselor in Training is available for ninth and tenth graders.

"Y camps are all about new, fun, experiences, skill and leadership development and character building," Silveria. "It's an amazing way to spend a summer vacation."

To ensure that every child and teen has the chance to go to camp, the Y offers financial assistance to those in need.
