Follow on Google News | The Ainol Novo 7 Aurora is love at first sightIf looks alone can kill, Ainol's Novo 7 Aurora is a beautiful killer.
Yes, the price is reasonable, and you'd probably suspect that an Android tablet so cheap must be another bargain-bin nightmare, made of plastic and good for nothing but to give your six-year-old something to play with on your next long car trip. But make no mistake, the Novo 7 Aurora is a high-end Android tablet, and just one look at it's display is like seeing your first high-school crush for the first time all over again. The first thing you're bound to notice after powering on the Novo 7 Aurora for the first time is how bright and vibrant the screen is. The Aurora sports a seven-inch IPS capacitive multi-touch screen in a full 16:9 aspect ratio, with a crisp 6.1 megapixel display. What that translates to in less geeky terms is one of the juiciest, sexiest displays in the Android market. For comparison, a 24-inch LED TV which costs the same as the Aurora will have, pixel-for-pixel, about the same resolution. If you place the Aurora side-by-side with any comparable model, you will see the difference right away. Not only is the Aurora's screen sharp, but it has a much wider viewing angle. You'll appreciate that subtle distinction if you've ever juggled your Android tablet in your lap between notebooks, textbooks, work assignments, and your morning coffee. The image stays remarkably sharp in bright sunlight, too, a feature which I find lacking in other displays of the type. I used to take my laptop out into the sun-room often, and I would often find myself turning to face directly into the sun, because, with my back turned to the sun, my LCD laptop was rendered invisible by the bright sunlight coming in from over my shoulders. The Aurora's crisp display keeps its edge by light of day and by the dark of night. It's a subtle distinction, but one worth mentioning. Of course, the Novo 7 Aurora's screen wouldn't mean much without the technological wherewithal to handle it, and to that end, Ainol has packed some healthy performance bits inside the Aurora's thin black frame. The processor runs at an even 1 gigahertz with an even gig of RAM to boot. Those aren't the largest numbers by full-sized PC standards, but they're the set pace for high-performance- Of course, if the Ainol Novo 7 Aurora's screen still isn't awesome enough for you, you can always connect it up with your 1080p HDTV and play everything you play on the small screen on a much larger screen.
