Locksmith Review for Brooklyn New York

This post is to help consumers become more knowlegable on the Locksmith industry and how to protect them selves from unethical Locksmith practices

March 5, 2012 - PRLog -- Brooklyn Locksmith service has changed dramatically. Due to easy licensing procedures and a lack of American ethics, the industry is flooded with people claiming to be a so called Locksmith. The basics of Locksmith work which i refer to as Locksmithing 101 consists of three elements. Cylinder and Lock change, Automotive Lockout service and yours truly Basic home or business lockout assistance. This is the foundation for all Locksmith work and can be taught in less then a week. So like driving a taxi cab or waiting tables this business has become a quick and easy stream of income for people that come to our country in search of the American dream. The department of consumer affairs for the City of New York requires that any applicant requesting licensing to perform Locksmith work must have a minimum of two years of active employment as an apprentice under a licensed Locksmith. The problem is that the procedure used to determine if a potential Locksmith is qualified is two signatures from an active locksmith and lack of a criminal record which cannot be determined due to a lack of citizenship. In Laymen's terms the license is practically giving away. This has led to a large influx of people claiming to be skilled in this trade and had destroyed the industry as a whole. These current circumstances have led to the extinction of our local mom and pop Locksmith shops and have resurfaced as unlicensed, unethical business practices.

American greed plays a large role in the sense that the internet and telecommunication giants have giving these companies a green light to rip people off. There actions have opened the door to an industry term called the Invisible Locksmith. I to am a victim as i have had many locations put out of business do to these vampires who single handily destroyed what many have worked so hard to build. I will elaborate.

In the early 90's the telecommunication industry was unregulated similar to the stock market in 1980. For pennies on the dollar telecommunication companies offered directory assistance placement in locations that did not exist. What that means is a Locksmith can by multiple telephone numbers usually in bulk. Then they would supply the phone company with an address for each number to make it appear as if they were the local locksmith shop and assume there identity. This helped to make it seem like there was a real location. In reality the consumers were contacting a call center with hundreds and in some cases thousand of phone lines. Besides listing these numbers illegally these Invisible locksmiths would take it one step further. Phone numbers were placed hundreds of times on the same block but in different locations and whats worse is they would single out legitimate Locksmith shops and place multiple listings around the store. So when a customer searched directory assistance for a specific Locksmith they would reach the call center and the Locksmith they were trying to reach would not get the call. The end result was a real Locksmith being put out of business and millions of dollars in profits to these call centers.

Unfortunately this practice still takes place but now it's nation wide. Coincidentally its being utilized by the same people who created it. What you have to ask yourself is why this country so determined to scrutinize and enforce fines on small buisness for the slightest in fracture of city policy would allow this fraudulent business practice continue to thrive.
