Avenidas Presents 5th Annual Housing Conference on March 10

Helps attendees answer question of where to live as they age

Palo Alto, CA (February 29, 2012) Avenidas is bringing together experts in the field with adult children and their parents as they strive to determine where the best place is for them to live as they age at the 5th Annual Avenidas Housing Conference on Saturday, March 10, 2012. Rick Turley, president of Coldwell Banker in the San Francisco Bay Area, will give the keynote address, entitled: “Real Estate is Real Local--A 2011 Review of the Bay Area Residential Market.”

Nine workshops are offered, ranging from the nuts and bolts of selling your home, to an overview of the various housing options that exist for older adults, to tips on de-cluttering. Attendees choose one workshop from each of the three sessions.

“We’ve crafted this conference to best answer the kinds of questions we hear every day on our Information and Assistance hotline,” states Avenidas President and CEO Lisa Hendrickson. “Whether people want to remain in their own home, or sell their home and move to a retirement community, we have the information they need to help them make sound decisions.”

For the second year in a row, the Avenidas Housing Conference will be held at the Oshman Family Jewish Community Center, located in 3921 Fabian Way in Palo Alto, on Saturday, March 10 from 8:30am to 2:30 pm. Early registration for this one-day conference is $40 for Avenidas members and $50 for non-members. After March 1, registration is $60. The program includes lunch, a keynote address, one copy of the newest “Where to Live Housing Guide,” three workshops, access to sponsors and the opportunity to win prizes.

The three workshops for the first session include “The Comfort and Safety of Home,” “Selling Your Home: The Four P’s,” and “Where to Live: First Steps.” The three subjects for the second session are “House Rich and Cash Poor: Ways to Unlock Your Home’s Value,” “All About Assisted Living” and “Letting Go of the Past to Make Room for the Future.” The third and last session’s topics are “Help Staying in Your Home,” “ABCs of CCRCs (Continuing Care Retirement Communities)” and “Should I Rent or Should I Own?”
