Avenidas’ Mountain View facility becomes 1st in County to receive new dual license to provide adult day care AND adult day health care

2 daytime programs give families burdened with caregiving more choices
Mountain View, CA (December 6, 2011) –The State of California has awarded Avenidas’ facility in Mountain View a dual license, effective today, to provide adult day care in addition to its existing adult day health care program. The facility has also been renamed Avenidas Rose Kleiner Center (formerly Avenidas Rose Kleiner Senior Day Health Center) and is currently the only facility in Santa Clara County with this dual license.

Adult day care is a non-medical program for adults who can no longer structure their own activities, be left alone, or are socially isolated. The goal is to enrich participants’ lives by providing a safe, secure environment, stimulating activities, group exercise, socialization, peer support and a nutritious noon meal.

“We are eager to provide our new day care program as it gives families on the mid-Peninsula more options for their aging loved ones,” states Avenidas Rose Kleiner Center Director Lenny Park. “Should participants require more support, they can be seamlessly transitioned to our adult day health care, a medical program, without having to move to a new facility,” she adds.

In this medical model, full-time registered nurses monitor participants’ health on a daily basis and administer medications, social workers help families and participants manage personal concerns and physical, occupational and speech therapists provide on-site rehab services.

“We work with people who have Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, stroke, and other chronic conditions, while also providing their families with relief from caregiving and the ability to go to work worry-free,” Park adds.

This Center, run by the non-profit agency Avenidas, was first established in 1976 at the Palo Alto Baptist Church, and moved to a new custom-built facility in Mountain View at 270 Escuela Avenue, next door to the Mountain View Senior Center, in 2005. Avenidas Rose Kleiner Center is a member of the California Association for Adult Day Services (CAADS). For more info, visit www.avenidas.org/care.
