Lighthouse Executive Director Assumes Two New Leadership Positions

Dr. Elly du Pré executive director of the Lighthouse of Broward, the county’s only nonprofit organization dedicated to comprehensive services for individuals who are blind or visually impaired, was recently elected to two new leadership positions.

Feb. 21, 2012 - PRLog -- (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) -- Dr. Elly du Pré is the new president of the Florida Association for Agencies Serving the Blind (FAASB), whose statewide mission is to serve as a united voice and be the organization empowering private agencies.  The organization strives to provide state-of-the-art professional vision rehabilitation services which enhance the quality of individual and community life.
   Dr. du Pré also was recently appointed secretary of the Broward Chamber of Non-profit Organizations (BCNPO), whose members include the executive leadership of health and human service nonprofit agencies in Broward County.  The organization’s monthly meetings help the members discover ways to improve services and work more collaboratively together.
   “Both of these leadership roles enable me to more effectively help make a difference for nonprofits in our local community and people who are blind or visually impaired throughout the state,” said du Pré, who has led the Lighthouse of Broward for more than six years and has more than 40 years experience in the visual impairment field.

   The Lighthouse of Broward is a 501 ( c ) 3 charity that serves blind and visually impaired babies, adults and seniors. All services are tailored to meet individual needs based on assessments conducted by certified professionals.  These professionals identify the exact skills needed for the Lighthouse client to achieve maximum independence.  
   Accredited by the National Accreditation Council for Blind and Low Vision Services, the Lighthouse of Broward earned the four-star rating from Charity Navigator.  A United Way partner agency, the Lighthouse is a member of the Florida Association of Agencies Serving the Blind and is sponsored by the State of Florida Department of Education/Division of Blind Services.  Operating funds are raised through grants and donations from individual and corporate supporters.
