He was drafted by the Giants in 1989 and retired from the club in 2001, having played in a franchise-record 207 games. Cross started in 171 of those 207 games and recorded 201 career receptions for 2,194 yards and 17 touchdowns. In his second season with the Giants, Cross played a key role as the Giants marched through the regular season and postseason, and ultimately defeated the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXV. Three of his four catches in that Super Bowl went for first downs. Cross helped lead the Giants to another Super Bowl in 2001. Cross was a three-year starter at tight end for the University of Alabama, where he was All-SEC his junior year and won the Jacobs Trophy as the outstanding blocker in the Southeastern Conference as a senior. He was inducted into the Alabama Crimson Tide Football Hall of Fame in 2011. In 2010, Cross was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, which counts as members such luminaries as Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Jesse Owens, Bear Bryant, Carl Lewis, Bo Jackson, Satchel Paige and Charles Barkley. A senior managing director at Colliers International in New York, Cross and his wife, Pia, have twins, Isabelle and Howard. He is an accomplished public speaker in the community and was named the Giants’ 1995 True Value Man of the Year.
