Feb. 14, 2012 - PRLog -- ELKO, NV—Listeners in Elko and the surrounding area of northern Nevada can now enjoy KNPR news, talk and classical music programming.

KLKR, Elko 89.3 FM is a 5,000-watt station that serves a population of approximately 46,000 residents, plus thousands of travelers on Interstate 80. The station operates as a high-definition digital broadcast with a simulcast of KNPR’s all-news schedule with classical music on the same frequency for those with a digital HD radio.

“We are very proud to complement the current public media and news offerings available in the Elko area,” said Florence Rogers, President and General Manager of Nevada Public Radio. “The launch of this station expands access to high quality regional, national and international news coverage including the BBC World Service overnights, and KNPR’s State of Nevada. We’re looking forward to including the voices of Elko residents in our weekday public affairs program.”

At an open house and live auction event at The Donald W. Reynolds Broadcast Center last week, event attendees Todd VonBastiaans and Bryan McCarthy were top bidders to “flip the switch” to officially put the station on air.
