| Momentous Event at Hodsock Priory Shapes Landscape for Future GenerationsAs the Queen celebrates a remarkable milestone in her reign, Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council Cllr Keith Walker joined the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire Sir Andrew Buchanan at one of the region’s first Diamond Jubilee events.
Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council Cllr Keith Walker commented: “It is a great honour to be part of this event at Hodsock Priory which is a fitting tribute to the Queen’s 60 year reign. The Royal Oak is a symbol of our county and the perfect choice for the creation of a wood on one of Nottinghamshire’ Hodsock is famous for its spectacular displays of snowdrops every February and welcomes thousands of visitors each year. George Buchanan, ninth generation resident, current owner and son of Sir Andrew Buchanan commented: “Each year we welcome over 20,000 visitors to our estate but this year they will be able to see a remarkable creation that will continue to change the landscape of Hodsock Priory for many years to come.” The Priory has in the past hosted several royal visits. Henry VIII visited one of his courtiers Sir Gervase Clifton who was living at Hodsock, he built the magnificent Tudor gatehouse that still stands today in honour of the visit. Also HRH Princess Margaret and HRH Prince Edward have visited. Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire Sir Andrew Buchanan commented: “The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee is an outstanding achievement and we are delighted to mark the Queen’s accession to the throne plus forthcoming celebration with a Diamond Wood. We were extremely pleased that prominent members of our community were able to join us in the official tree-planting ceremony.” Visitors to Hodsock Snowdrops (open until 4th March) will be able to witness the creation of the wood.
