Gas Natural Recovery’s Gas flaring projects under the Clean Development Mechanism

Feb. 7, 2012 - PRLog -- Gas Natural Recovery (Mexico City), a leading innovator in the oil and gas industry has reported that Gas flaring reduction projects can be an attractive option for carbon credit projects but face particularly challenging requirements for the registration by the UN Framework Convention’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Executive Board and host countries’ governments. Most of these requirements are related to the project’s - demonstrating that the related emission reductions would not occur in the absence of the project. Inadequate or incomplete information during the project development phase may result in rejection of the project and significant stranded investments. At the end of 2010, Gas Natural Recovery’s report went on to state only 10 out of 21 submitted projects were successfully registered.
On behalf of  all oil and gas enterprise, Gas Natural Recovery provided an in-depth analysis of the relevant regulations and their practical application and investigated national policies, guidelines and approval practices in nine Middle East and South American countries. Desktop research was complemented with interviews with independent third party organizations involved in the validation of CDM projects and extensive explanatory amendments. A special focus was given on how investment analysis for these projects are carried out and presented in the project design documents.
