Feb. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Voltage drops are a common problem in industrial and commercial environments. They occur with greater frequency since power–distribution systems are becoming increasingly more complex. Voltage fluctuations have considerable consequences: Production processes are interrupted, machines stop working, systems have to be reconfigured. All this costs time and money. In the worst case scenario a system breakdown can cause data loss and failure of machines and systems.

The J Schneider DC-buffer module of the series C-TEC works with ultra capacitors as energy storage inside the housing. These capacitors are charged by an external regulated DC power supply in normal operation. In case of an interruption of the DC-supply, the energy of the Ultra capacitors is released. The load is now supplied by the buffer module till it is discharged. The back-up time depends on the state of charge of the capacitors and on the discharge current.

With C-TEC  offers a new product portfolio of buffer modules. As C-TEC does not require changing batteries it provides an economic benefit.

C-TEC Cap Ultra buffer modules can be integrated into almost any new and existing power supply system. They can communicate with PLC respectively industrial PCs via signal contacts respectively a USB interface. This allows reacting intelligently to changes in the operating mode.

APPLICATION 1 buffered:
- buffer module in parallel to power supply and load
- complete load is buffered

APPLICATION 2 buffered and unbuffered:
- load can be split into protected and unprotected areas
- only critical consumers are buffered

APPLICATION 3 safe system shut-down:
- IPC/PLC and critical sensors and actuators are buffered
- uncritical actuators and sensors are not buffered

APPLICATION 4 4 extended buffering
- load can be split into protected and unprotected areas
- increased buffering of critical consumers
