Feb. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Los Angeles – February 2, 2012 – Samantha C. Grant, a partner in the Labor & Employment Practice at the Los Angeles-based law firm Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp (MS&K), was among the winners of the award for the “Most Powerful and Influential Women of California” presented by the California Diversity Council.

The awards were presented in conjunction with the 3rd Annual California Diversity & Leadership Conference, held today and tomorrow at U.C. Berkeley’s Pauley Ballroom. The conference, which features keynote speeches by nationally renowned figures Donna Brazile and Dr. Cornel West, provides a forum for members of the California business community to have an open dialogue about how to successfully leverage and manage diversity efforts in the workplace.

Grant recently was named one of California’s “Top Labor & Employment Lawyers” by the Daily Journal (2011). She has received a number of other honors and awards in recognition of her considerable legal expertise and experience, including: “Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Stars” (Super Lawyers, 2005-2010); “Top Women Litigators” (Daily Journal, 2007); and “10 Up and Coming African American Lawyers to Watch” (Diversity & the Bar, 2007).

In addition to a successful career as a labor and employment attorney, Grant volunteers her time to promote racial diversity in the legal profession. Last fall, she was installed as president of the Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, a non-profit organization that addresses the needs and concerns of African-American women in the legal profession. Grant also serves as co-chair of MS&K’s National Diversity Committee.

“Samantha’s dedication to community service and advocacy for minorities in the legal profession makes her a well-deserving recipient of this award,” said MS&K Managing Partner Tom Lambert. “On behalf of all of the partners at MS&K, we congratulate Samantha on this recognition and will continue to support her in her important efforts to promote racial and gender diversity in our industry.”

Born in London, England, and raised in London and Toronto, Grant earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto and her law degree at UCLA School of Law. She joined MS&K in 1999 and was named partner in 2005.
