Keepons Eyeglass Retainers and Mutant Superheroes

Keepons eyeglass retainers don’t just help normal eyeglass wearers, the company’s current marketing campaign takes a look at what the product could do for mutant superheroes.

Feb. 1, 2012 - PRLog -- If you’ve been absent from Earth for the last 30 years, you’ll be forgiven for not knowing who the X-Men are, otherwise you may have even bought a comic book or seen one of the movies.

“I’ve been doing marketing for over twenty years now, and every time I’m handed a new product, I try to distinguish it, set it apart from the rest,” says Michael Wong, marketing manager for chamightlike.com, a self-billed curating shop of cool that currently only carries only one product line: Keepons eyeglass retainers, small silicone attachments that slip over your eyeglass frame temples so your eyeglasses won’t slip down your nose.

“And positioning a product is even more crucial in this Internet age of ADD and de-sensitivity. We’ve seen everything and read everything and unless it amuses us in half a second, we ain’t gonna buy it,” he says with conviction in his eyes.

Sitting in a small coffee shop in the Tsim Sha Tsui district of bustling Hong Kong, he talks about the web and where we’re headed.

“When I came here 3 years ago and started talking about Facebook and Twitter after having been banned by Digg for the third time, people looked at me strange, as if to say, ‘you can’t make money that way!’ but look at things now. But things are going to get even crazier - that’s why I read William Gibson, it’s like prophecy without the strange voices in your head,” he laughs over expensive coffee.

When prompted what Keepons eyewear retainers (http://chamightlike.com/collections/keepons/products/keep...) have to do with superheroes, he continues, “the reason I believe in my product so much is because falling glasses is really frustrating. I have personally been frustrated with falling glasses to the point of wanting to cry because you feel exasperated, helpless. You push them up, they fall down. You push them up again, they fall down. You throw your glasses on the table, you’re blind as a watchmaker!” Wong says with a chortle, that last allusion to the Richard Dawkins book of the same name.

“So then I started thinking, how can I further extend this idea of important Keepons are to who we are and what we do and a couple of days later while I was playing online Mario Kart against some kid from France, the idea literally knocked me on the floor.”

The idea is simple, but illustrates the effectiveness of Keepons in solving a widespread problem.

“In my mind, I pictured Cyclops, not the mythical beast man, but the captain of the X-Men. A lot of people think that Professor X is the captain, but really the professor is like the general manager.”

After taking a sip of his jumbo cup of cappuccino, Wong continues.

“And Cyclops’ visor keeps slipping down his face and that’s a big problem for him and the rest of the world because in the X-Men movies we’ve seen what happens when Cyclops is without his visor…those lasers basically shoot of his eyes and cut down anything in his path and when I say cut, I mean incinerate. Buildings, walls, human bodies…”

Wong continues with his explanation suggesting that this would never happen if we wore Keepons eyeglass retainers (http://chamightlike.com/collections/keepons) and as a result the world would be safe from his crazy laser eyes.

“It’s only the beginning. After Cyclops I started thinking about other famous fictional character who could benefit from glasses that don’t slip, such as Geordie La Forge from Star Trek The Next Generation.”
