Children’s Progress Announces New Feature: Spanish Language Parent Reports

Children’s Progress releases Spanish language parent reports for its Pre K – 3 computer adaptive diagnostic assessments; feature to play key role in district parent involvement plans.

Dec. 19, 2011 - PRLog -- Children’s Progress today announced the release of Spanish language parent reports for its award-winning Children’s Progress Academic Assessment (CPAA). The Spanish language parent reports are now available to all educators using the English or Spanish language version of this standards-aligned adaptive assessment.

“The parent reports and activities offer us a great, easy way to enhance the partnership between the school and the home. In our 27 schools that are using the CPAA this year, the population of English Language Learners ranges from 2% to 90%. It’s helpful to be able to assess students in Spanish when needed and to also be able to share parent reports with Spanish-speaking family members,” said Jodi Lax, Manager of Curriculum, Instruction and EL Services, Pre K – 5 for the San Jose Unified School District in California.

Children’s Progress parent reports – in both English and Spanish – play a key role in district parent involvement plans. These automatically generated reports allow administrators to communicate and collaborate with families without placing an additional burden on existing staff. They distill diagnostic assessment results for parents and include specific remediation and enrichment activities, organized by concept. Educators share these reports during parent-teacher conferences and send them home throughout the year to help family members plan teachable moments at home that will support classroom learning.

As the percentage of Spanish-speaking households in the U.S. continues to grow, Children’s Progress remains committed to eliminating achievement gaps and giving Spanish-speaking parents equal access to information they can use to help their children excel.

“Parents already receive reports about their children’s scores on high stakes tests. This information helps them understand how their children performed, but not what they can do about it. Our goal is to empower parents by sending home diagnostic information they can use to address learning needs proactively. Using our reports, both English- and Spanish-speaking parents can quickly understand how they can build on what the child already knows to help him or her continue to grow,” said Children’s Progress CEO, Kevin Greaney.

Research shows that parent involvement is critical for student success. As districts nationwide struggle to piece together a parent involvement plan that will allow them to successfully communicate and collaborate with families to drive achievement, schools and districts using the Children’s Progress parent reports are enhancing the home-school partnership by providing families with actionable diagnostic information.

A District Administration Top 100 Product of 2011, the CPAA is available aligned to state and Common Core standards in prekindergarten through third grade. Districts, schools and state agencies use this adaptive diagnostic assessment for screening, progress monitoring and differentiating instruction in the earliest grades.
