Extra Helping for StreetSmart in Cornwall

Fantastic news for the StreetSmart campaign sees the government doubling the amount raised in Cornwall for local homeless charities.

Dec. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- The amount raised for Cornwall’s homeless charities through this winter’s StreetSmart campaign will be doubled by the government.

StreetSmart is a national campaign that raises money for local charities through restaurants adding an optional £1 to each bill throughout November and December.
Deutsche Bank sponsors the campaign so every single pound goes directly to charity.

In Cornwall the match-funding will give a huge boost to the amount raised for the Cornwall Women’s Refuge Trust, St Petroc’s Society and the county’s Foodbanks.

There are a record number of 24 restaurants taking part in Cornwall this year and the scheme is being well received by diners.

Trevaskis Farm, near Hayle, raised nearly £1000 for StreetSmart last year and is hoping to beat that this winter.  Owner Hannah Eustice is delighted that their total will be doubled by the government.

“It’s great news that every pound donated to StreetSmart will be matched.  The scheme is going well again at Trevaskis Farm but this cash boost will really encourage staff and customers to get behind it for our local homeless charities.”

Hannah Calland owns and has been running the fundraising scheme in The Old Quay Inn at Devoran since StreetSmart began in Cornwall.

“StreetSmart is once again going really well and in fact many of our diners are giving more than £1.  We are also running a pub quiz and we will donate the proceeds to the scheme.  It’s fantastic to think that all that we raise will be doubled, it will make a huge difference to the local charities.”

The match-funding will come from the Office for Civil Society and all StreetSmart areas except Glasgow, Edinburgh and London will benefit from it.

StreetSmart runs until 31 December and restaurants taking part in Cornwall are:
Archie Brown’s – Truro and Penzance, Blue Beach Bar & Brasserie - Porthtowan, Bustophers - Truro, Carn Brea Castle - Camborne, Fireside at the Cove - Lamorna, Gylly Beach Café - Falmouth, Harbourside at the Greenbank Hotel - Falmouth, Indaba Fish: In the City - Truro and On the Beach - Falmouth, Lewinnick Lodge - Newquay, Miss Peapods Café - Penryn, Nathan Outlaw’s Seafood & Grill - Rock, Stein’s Cornish Arms - Padstow, The Golden Lion - Stithians, The Gurnard’s Head - St.Ives, No 1 Rock Road - Rock, The Old Quay Inn - Deveron, The Roseland Inn - Philleigh-in-Roseland, The Victory Inn - St Mawes, Treloyhan Manor - St.Ives, Trevaskis Farm - Hayle, Waterfront Bar & Café - Polzeath and TwoTen200 - Falmouth.
