Marriott Hotels of San Antonio Holiday “Tamalathon”

Dec. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- San Antonio, Texas – November 22, 2011 –  This holiday season Marriott employees in San Antonio Texas will produce thousands  of tamales to support the San Antonio Food Bank. All hotel associates including all managers, supervisors, and hourly associates will stand side by side and roll tamales in an effort to make our community a brighter place for the holidays.

Tamales have historic significance to Marriott as the first restaurants owned and managed by the founders of the company had Tamales prominently on the menu.  With tamales in our corporate roots, and the hand making of tamales during the holidays as a family tradition, the Tamalathon will be a labor of love from the Marriott family of hotels to benefit the San Antonio Food Bank.  

The tamale ingredients and packaging materials will be donated or purchased with earmarked funds from vendors and 100% of the proceeds from the sales of the tamales will benefit our local food bank.  The tamales will be sold for a minimum $10 donation.  This $10 donation produces $130 in buying power for the San Antonio Food Bank.  Thus our goal of $10,000 donation produces $130,000 in buying power for the San Antonio Food Bank.

Marriott’s goal is to produce 1000 dozen tamales (12,000 tamales) in the kitchens of the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa and the Marriott San Antonio Rivercenter.  Assistance in the process will come from the various Marriott branded hotels in San Antonio including Courtyard, Residence Inn, SpringHill Suites, TownePlace Suites, Fairfield Inn and Suites as well as the Marriott Global Reservation Center.
