Assateague, Berlin prints created for Coastal Bays fundraiser

Eastern Shore icons featured in Erick Sahler's bold, colorful screen-printed artwork

Dec. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- BERLIN — The world-famous ponies of Assateague Island and iconic marquee of Berlin’s Globe Theater are featured in two new limited-edition prints created by serigraph artist Erick Sahler for the Arts 4 Clean Bays show at the Berlin Chamber Visitors Center.

“Discover Assateague,” a nine-color screen-printed image, features a tri-color paint and a chestnut pony along the dune line under the words “Discover Assateague.” There are 115 prints in the edition and prices range from $65 to $135, depending on matting and framing.

“So many of us have a connection with Assateague,” Sahler said. “Of course, the ponies are its trademark, but who hasn’t idled away a day getting lost in its scenic natural beauty? This print is a reminder of those times, and all the discoveries that Assateague still holds for us.”

The Berlin print, the third in Sahler’s whimsical “GullFriends™” series, is an eight-color serigraph depicting the Globe marquee, which announces “Runaway Bride” and “Tuck Everlasting,” the two movies filmed in Berlin. There are 70 prints in the edition. Matted prints are $25.

“Berlin is the quintessential American small town,” Sahler said. “It is entirely fitting that these two charming movies were filmed here to present Berlin to the world.”

All serigraphs by Sahler are printed hand in his Salisbury studio using archival inks on acid-free paper.

Sahler, 44, is a Salisbury native who graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore County with a bachelor’s degree in visual and performing arts. As a teenager, he studied with maritime artist C. Keith Whitelock. He has created commercial artwork for clients across the Eastern Shore since 1983, and his illustrations and cartoons appeared for more than 20 years in The (Salisbury, Md.) Daily Times.

The Arts 4 Clean Bays continues through Dec. 31 at the Berlin Chamber Visitors Center in the “old Post Office” at 14 S. Main St. in Berlin. A portion of proceeds from the will be donated to the Maryland Coastal Bays Program. Call 410-641-4775.

Prints may also be purchased at the artist’s studio in Salisbury by calling 410-845-3774 or online at www.ErickSahler.com.
