Barcelona is the second city in the world to host the most international congresses

Welcoming a total of 148 professional meetings in 2010, Barcelona ranked just behind Vienna, which held 154. The announcement comes from the 2010 world rankings list compiled by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA); a company which provides an inventory of all professional meetings that rotate regularly between a minimum of three countries, attracting at least 50 delegates.

In addition, Barcelona was listed as the second city in the world to have the most participants at such conventions, with a total of 81,933 delegates attending, according to statistics published by the ICCA in 2008. This time the capital of Catalonia ranked above Vienna, with 69,573 delegates and behind the world leader, Berlin, which was listed as having a total of 106,171 participants.

Barcelona is set to host many conferences and exhibitions over the coming months, including the EIBTM fair and the Mobile World Congress.

This year, the EIBTM Barcelona Global Meetings and Incentives Exhibition will take place between 29 November and 1 December. Known to be the leading global event in the meetings industry, the fair attracts over 14,200 people for three days of business networking and professional education.

The 2012 GSMA Mobile World Congress will take place between 27 February and 1 March.
