Juice Plus | A Research and Review

Nov. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Juice Plus has been around since 1993 and they claim their products are NOT a “nutrition or vitamin supplement”, but instead offer whole food products from fruit and vegetable juices, in powder form, that they say provide a greater variety of naturally occurring nutrients. They are a legitimate company and can NOT be labeled in any way as a “scam”.

Juice Plus calls Santa Monica (California) home and manufactures all of its products there. The products are distributed by NSA (National Safety Associates) a company in Tennessee. They compete with many other companies in the health and wellness industry, including the two biggies Herbalife and Amway plus smaller companies like MonaVie and Wowgreen.

Not Your Average MLM

They offer a somewhat unique business opportunity that they call a “virtual franchise”. They are not what you would call a “normal” network marketing company. Instead, their compensation plan is based mostly on selling the products, though they do offer some limited commissions on downline sales, they mostly encourage the direct sale of products over finding and training new distributors. They lean more to a franchise style setup in that sense, without the brick and mortar overhead. And, they even tout their opportunity as being a “part time” endeavor.

But, I can see some real problems with this business model that many might miss at first glance.

First Come, First Serve

With a “virtual franchise” like Juice Plus, I can see real problems for new distributors. Most obvious is that since the company promotes selling the products over finding new distributors, those distributors who have been in business for the longest time are going to be able to “corner the market place” in their location by promoting and advertising themselves for an extended period of time.

Any new distributor will be faced with an uphill battle, and a costly one, to begin the search for customers in any area that already has an “established Juice Plus distributor”. Other network marketing companies can overcome this challenge by rewarding distributors for finding and training new distributors who can start selling products in different locations, and they will receive handsome commissions on those sales. But, Juice Plus wants their distributors to focus on directly selling the products to customers… and, they reward that.

Open Competition for Locations?

Every “franchise business” I know of offers their owner/operators “protection” in their area/location from other owner/operators. The reason you don’t see two McDonalds, or two UPS Stores right next to each other is because they don’t allow a new franchise to “encroach” on an existing franchise’s location.

I see no such protection offered with this company. It’s open competition for any and all locations, which can be good for existing distributors… but, not so good for new distributors. Existing distributors will already have the cash flow to out advertise any new distributor competition.

The Juice Plus business opportunity is not for everyone. It offers some good products, but its compensation plan may provide a real challenge to anyone starting from scratch with limited resources. If you can find a location with no current distributors you may be successful… but, you will always be “looking over your shoulder” for any new distributor trying to enter your location.
