Nov. 3, 2011 - PRLog -- If you have ever wanted to capture a striking panoramic view, only to be left disappointed when you realise your camera is unable to record your view you may need to invest in some panoramic view software.

A panoramic photograph is a series of photographic shots which is merged or ‘stitched’ together, giving your a photo with much wider coverage. Some types of photography apparatus and equipment allow you to select the panoramic option while preparing to shoot a scene, however most professional photographers choose to stitch their images using specialist computer software.

To obtain a high quality panoramic shot you’ll need to have a good amount of overlap between each individual shot.  This ensures that the software is able to find the points which are needed to align the images and merge the panoramic view together to create a panoramic photograph.

There are a few basic techniques which need to be considered before undertaking the panoramic photograph process. To begin with you’ll need a wide uninterrupted scene, and it’s helpful if you use a tripod too in order to keep the camera steady.  Set your camera onto manual mode, and adjust the aperture to a low level.  It’s also advised that you keep the same focal distance too, for a consistent effect across all of your images in order to achieve a better final image.  Setting your camera’s aperture priority to a small setting for all the images will ensure that the same depth of field is achieves across the entirety of the finished product.

Alternatively, if you have a more basic camera which is not capable of these types of settings you can simply put it onto your camera’s landscape setting.  Furthermore, if you are currently using a polarising filter over the lens of your camera remove it. This is because it will change the colour of the sky as you change the camera angle to take each of the individual shots.

It’s advised that you take one trial image and then study it on the LCD screen of your camera afterwards to ensure that everything looks as it should. Take a snap of something that can be used as a marker, such as a hat, or the edge of a building for example. Start taking photographs from the left side of your panoramic view, making your way around to the right side. After taking the first image move the camera so that your viewfinder is a third of the way along the original image. The next image should capture thee quarters of the first image, and repeat this until all of the panoramic view has been shot.

You’ll then need to process your set of images using the computer software. In most cases you will also have to re-size the image, making it shorter and reducing the amount of memory that it uses.
