Nov. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- Georganne Chapin, President and CEO of Hudson Health Plan, has been named to the Editorial Advisory Board of Managed Care magazine, the leading monthly publication covering the managed care industry.

Nationally known as a health care visionary and passionate advocate for health equity, health care reform, and bioethics, Ms. Chapin has grown Hudson from a small Medicaid Managed Care health plan to the No. 1 Medicaid health plan in New York State based on quality and performance data two years running. Hudson, a community-based not-for-profit organization, has designed and launched numerous innovative programs that bridge the gap between health care as it is and health care as it should be.

“We are honored to have Ms. Chapin join Managed Care’s Editorial Advisory Board, one that comprises top thought leaders in health care,” explains Managed Care Editor John Marcille. “Her insight and years of experience in developing innovative models of integrated care will help our publication remain on the cutting edge of managed care.” Mr. Marcille notes that as a board member, Ms. Chapin will advise the editors about emerging trends in health care and serve as a sounding board for editorial ideas.

“It is an honor to be selected to join the prestigious Editorial Advisory Board of this highly respected magazine, and I look forward to sharing the knowledge Hudson has gained in almost 25 years of integrating care for at-risk patients,” Ms. Chapin says. “Coordinating care for the very sick, as well as keeping healthy people healthy, is a key part of the Affordable Care Act.  Managed care organizations are in the best position to deliver that type of integrated care, and I welcome the chance to be a catalyst and help more managed care plans meet this challenge.”

In addition to her leadership at Hudson, Ms. Chapin is the founder and president of the Hudson Center for Health Equity & Quality, an independent not-for-profit organization launched by Hudson to improve access to quality health care, provide easy online enrollment in public health insurance, and promote equitable health care for all. The Hudson Center has successfully streamlined the Medicaid enrollment process for hundreds of thousands of people in New York.  Ms. Chapin also is the founding Executive Director of Intact America, a national advocacy effort conducted under the guidance of the Hudson Center to end routine circumcision of infant boys – a medically unnecessary procedure according to all professional medical societies. The campaign has already helped to significantly reduce the number of babies subjected to this surgery.

Ms. Chapin writes and presents widely in the U.S. and abroad on Medicaid Managed Care, health care reform, and bioethics. She is frequently quoted in the media, and has appeared on national and local television and radio. She earned her BA in anthropology from Barnard College, her MA and MPhil degrees in sociomedical sciences from Columbia University, and a JD, cum laude, with certificates in health law and international law, from Pace University School of Law.
