Nov. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- On the night of June 21st, 1942, Ft Stevens, built in 1858 was in the process of being dismantled as it was obsolete.  The Japanese didn't know this at the time.  Japanese sub I-25 was cruising the Oregon Coastline and saw flashes of light on the beach.  The submarine fired 17 rounds of shells hitting the beach but causing no real damage, save for a baseball backstop in Ft Stevens.

Ft Stevens personnel did not fire back...leaving the nagging question of "why?"  Alan Fitzsimons has written a stageplay based on information from his father...who was there the night of the bombardment.

Written in a comedic style and performed by both  veterans of the stage as well as newcomers, the show will surely delight especially those that served in World War II.

"Jake" is played by Jake Cohn, "Walnut" by Thomas Wesley, "Cookie" the cook by Jeff Wood, "Pappy" the sergeant by David Drury,  and "Reporter" by Brooke Baxley.

Dean Apple both produces, directs and plays the "MC: for "Meet Our Veterans" in the introduction to the play, loosley formatted after the "Meet the Press" television show.

Conrad Vargas, a veteran of the Army and Marion Pettygrove, a veteran of the Marines play themselves as guests of "Meet Our Vetereans."

"Return Fire" will debut at the Joshlyn Center in the Arthur Newman Theatre in Palm Desert, CA on Veteran's Day, November 11th, 2011 at 7pm.  Tickets are selling for a patriotic  $5.00 each.  Contact Dean Apple at his e-mail:  deanapple1@hotmail.com to reserve your seat.  Tickets are available at the door with limited seating without reservations.

The Joslyn Center is Co-Producer of the stage play while Renee Vargas, of Thermal, CA is producing and directing the movie using the stageplay performance as well as additional footage to complete the movie, film screening TBA.
