Marin Pediatric Dental Practice Receives American Dental Association Design Award

Oct. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Greenbrae, CA— Gila C. Dorostkar, DDS, announced today that the pediatric dental practice located at 1300 South Eliseo Drive in Greenbrae, California is the recipient of the distinguished 2011 Dental Office Design Competition Award in two categories, "Outstanding Specialty Practice" and "Outstanding Environmental Consideration" for the national competition sponsored by the American Dental Association (ADA) and Matsco Practice Finance, a division of Wells Fargo.  The award is the benchmark for dental office design in the U.S. and was presented to Gila C. Dorostkar at the ADA Annual Session held in Las Vegas, Nevada on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. The Dental Office Design Competition is an annual event that recognizes dental facilities that most effectively express the practice philosophy of its practitioner and demonstrate a thoughtful assembly of design characteristics associated with an up-to-date dental office. Entries are judged by a panel of dental industry experts.

According to Dr. Dorostkar, “Our goal was to create a welcoming, playful environment that would engage children of all ages while catering to the needs of their parents, our staff and our community. We intentionally planned a design that would minimize the traditional feel of a medical practice by incorporating high ceilings, open areas and a sweeping serpentine wall in place of a straight hallway. The use of natural lighting, glass walls, clerestory windows and custom delivery systems and cabinetry further enhanced the unique feel of the suite. In keeping with our practice philosophy of promoting a healthy, environmentally conscious atmosphere we established LEED Certification as a project objective.”
The 2500 square-foot pediatric dental facility is the first privately funded pediatric dental office in the U.S. to be awarded LEED® certification. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for commercial interiors was awarded to the Dorostkar practice on November 18, 2010 by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). LEED is the nation’s preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high performance, environmentally friendly buildings.

Dr. Gila C. Dorostkar is a Board Certified Pediatric Specialist and Fellow of the American College of Dentists who began practicing in Marin County in 1997.  She is an advocate for children’s health and has served in leadership roles in the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry (CSPD) and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD).  Dr. Dorostkar also donates her expertise by treating children who might otherwise not have access to a Pediatric Specialist and supports numerous local school foundations and children’s programs.
