New Book Compares Montgomery’s Past to Present

Local authors team up to tell story through photographs

Oct. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- The newest addition to Arcadia Publishing’s Then & Now series is Montgomery from local authors Carole A. King and Karren Pell. The book boasts more than 200 vintage and modern images, documenting the history and growth of Alabama’s capital.

Montgomery’s history is like a thread that runs from its early buildings to important Civil War sites to civil rights landmarks. The current redevelopment theme, “City of Dreams,” shows that present-day Montgomery is a continuation of that connecting thread. Previous Arcadia authors, King and Pell combine their experience and knowledge of Montgomery’s history to show images from past to present.

The authors hope that “current residents of Montgomery enjoy learning about their history, and that the book also inspires increased interest and investment in historic properties.”

Comparing our present to our past is how we understand our history.  Arcadia’s Then & Now series makes such local comparisons available.  Books in this series offer a special view of American life, placing historical images side by side with contemporary photographs.

Available at area bookstores, independent retailers, and online retailers, or through Arcadia Publishing at www.arcadiapublishing.com or (888)-313-2665.
