Delaware County's Rep. Tom Killion’s Leadership Recognized by PA Orthopaedic Surgeons

Oct. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- State Representative Tom Killion (R., Delaware) was honored as the Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society’s Legislator of the Year today in Philadelphia.  The award is given annually to one Pennsylvania legislator who demonstrates extraordinary support for patients and the orthopaedic surgeons who care for them.

“Tom Killion is that rare breed of lawmaker who does not constantly stand in front of a camera or microphone bathing in the limelight,” stated Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society (POS) president Harry Schmaltz of Scranton.  “Instead, he quietly discusses the concerns of POS’s members and their patients with his colleagues away from the spotlight.  His style is different from others and he is effective because of it.”  

Representative Killion is a member of the House Insurance Committee, a committee whose work can have a positive or negative affect on patients and physicians.  From that vantage point, Representative Killion has consistently voted in favor of legislation to assist patients and physicians.  

In addition to his committee assignments, Representative Killion is also a well respected member of the State House’s influential Delaware County Delegation which includes House Appropriations Chair Bill Adolph and House Insurance Committee Nick Micozzie. He honed his coalition building skills through many years of experience in county and state politics.

“The POS is honored to call Representative Killion a friend of orthopaedic surgeons.  We hope this recognition as our Legislator of the Year truly reflects our gratitude toward him.”  Schmaltz said.    

Past recipients include House Majority Leader Mike Turzai (R., Allegheny), State Senator and Republican Attorney General Candidate John Rafferty (R., Montgomery), Senate Appropriations Chairman Jake Corman (R. Centre) and former State Senator Connie Williams (D. Montgomery).
