Oct. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Whitten Brothers is a locally owned & family operated business that has been serving the Greater Richmond community for over 90 years. We were founded March 8, 1920 as a small tire shop & have gradually grown with the 4th successive generation currently in management. During this period, we have learned that you the customer are our number one asset & must be valued above all else. We are proud of what we sell & are here to help in any way we can.

To achieve this, we have created The Whitten Advantage which is given away with every new vehicle & are proud to offer industry leading support on well-maintained, thoroughly-inspected preowned vehicles.

Our goal is not to sell you one vehicle. It is to sell you multiple & provide top level service. We truly are here to work for you before & after the sale.

Tips And Advice

Buying a car can be a very confusing ordeal. However, it really doesn’t have to be. Below you will find some information that we, as “car people”, deem to be extremely relevant when purchasing a car.

1. READ THE SMALL PRINT (especially when shopping online!) – It may be time consuming & bothersome; however, it is worth your time. Many dealers today are putting prices out there that you will never be able to obtain. Their hope is that once you take the time to drive to their dealership & realize you’ve been duped then you will just give in & buy the car. We don’t operate like this. We never will. Make sure you check for…

2. Destination Fees: these are commonly left out of pricing but will absolutely be charged to you when you reach the dealership. Expect them to be up to $895.

3. Rebates: Make sure you qualify for all included rebates. Very often, you will not.

4. Trust your salesperson. Too many people do not trust who they chose to deal with. This is a shame. If you find yourself in this situation you should either leave the dealership or deal directly with management. If you find yourself in this situation at Whitten, PLEASE speak to a manager. We take great pride in being a straight forward, family owned & operated business.

5. What is my trade worth? – This is a great question. It’s also a tough one to definitively answer. Plug your vehicle info into this tool (autotrader trade in marketplace) & you will know the least it is worth to us. It will often be worth more but we need to see it to know this.

6. Should I bring my trade-in if I’m just looking? – Many buying guides tell you to hide the fact that you have a trade. You can do this. It’s your call & it doesn’t really matter to the dealer but it will make the buying process longer. Even if you are just looking, why not get a value on your vehicle?

7. Know what you can afford. This seems obvious but there are multiple ways to look at this statement.

8. Are you paying cash & worried about a bottom line? If so, make sure you know all the fees before you leave a dealership or agree to purchase.

9. Are you financing & worried about the payment fitting into your monthly budget? If so, use the payment calculator to figure out how much you can spend. Remember to look out for a lot for taxes & other fees that may apply.

10. Can I borrow money to buy a car? Again, there are many things that affect this. The most important are…

11. Your credit history. Have you borrowed on a car before? Do you have credit established? Have you been through a rough patch? Check your credit below or submit us some info for an instant approval.

Visit Credit report.com to check your credit history.

Your down payment. The down payment is a key factor in any loan. Money down always helps to get an approval, lower your interest rate, & lower your payment. Estimate that each $1000 down will lower your payment by $18-20 monthly.

12. Do new car rebates really change? YES. They change every month & often go down from one month to another. Believe it or not, dealers are not lying to you when they say they don’t know what is going to happen to rebates in the future. They are controlled by the manufacturer & used to manage inventory supply on a national level.

13. When is the right time to buy? The million dollar question has a simple answer. Buy when you want to buy a car & feel you are getting a fair deal. Truth be told, car dealers’ costs don’t change so the deals stay relatively constant. If you’re waiting for huge rebates on new vehicles & aren’t picky, wait until the end of the model year. Just know you may not have the option to get EXACTLY what you want.
