Cutting Loose Salon to Host Cut-a-Thon Fundraiser to Benefit The Cancer Support Community

Oct. 5, 2011 - PRLog -- In commemoration of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Cutting Loose Salon and Spa will host a Cut-A-Thon on Sunday, October 9, benefiting the Lakewood Ranch-based Cancer Support Community (CSC).  For one day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Designers and Senior Stylists will offer haircuts for a budget-pleasing price of $20.  In addition, 15 minute chair massages and professional make-up applications will be available for $10 each.  All proceeds will go to CSC, Florida Suncoast, a non-profit organization providing free psychological and educational services to cancer patients, their families and loved ones.  

In an effort to increase the amount of money raised to support the Cancer Support Community, Cutting Loose will raffle off a luxurious gift basket filled with over $500 of name-brand beauty products, spa and hair services from Cutting Loose.  Additionally, beginning in September, sister salon AfterHours will join Cutting Loose in accepting $1 donations from customers and staff, in exchange for commemorative ribbons personalized with the donor’s name.  

“Our goal is to raise $5,000”, said Coral Peas, owner of the both Cutting Loose and
AfterHours.   “We believe in supporting organizations within our local community and appreciate that the new CSC facility has created an environment that offers physical and spiritual comfort and provides a healing place for thousands of people in our area.  By having this event in October, we can also remind our customers and the community that annual breast exams will detect cancer in its earliest stages and therefore can save lives”.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The disease is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths among women.  Since the awareness program began in 1985, mammography rates have more than doubled for women age 50 and older and breast cancer deaths have declined. Although this is exciting progress, many women still do not take advantage of early detection and do not get mammograms and clinical breast exams at regular intervals.   Breast Cancer Awareness Month is designed to remind all women of the importance of regular check-ups.
