On Foot Holidays - self-guided walking trips in Europe

Travel PR is delighted to announce that it is now representing On Foot Holidays.

Oct. 4, 2011 - PRLog -- A self-guided walking-holiday specialist, On Foot offers 18 trails in unspoilt areas of Europe, ranging from the barely-trodden (e.g the Sabine Hills) to the must-see (how about the Amalfi Coast?). Flexibility is key: from amblers to steely scramblers, all abilities are accommodated; you decide your set-off date and book your own air or rail travel; your luggage is taken care of en route, leaving you pleasingly hands-free; and most accommodation is on a B&B basis, meaning you can investigate local restaurants as your stomach dictates.

Each walk has been designed by a ‘Route Adviser’ – a person who lives locally and has painstakingly developed an itinerary through varied countryside, packing in as much culture as possible en route. They have sought out the most welcoming small hotels, farmhouses and village rooms, too – the sort of legwork people generally just don’t have time to do.

Furthermore, every single walk has been scrupulously tested and graded by On Foot’s Director, Simon Scutt, and by at least one other team member. Call them and you will get first-hand knowledge.

“There’s little more uplifting than walking through lands that have been untouched by time,” comments Scutt. “Throw in culture, fine food and characterful accommodation, and our walks make for the perfect tonic.”

SAMPLE WALKS:
Lycian Way, Turkey, £675 pp
This walk was designed by Kate Clow – an inhabitant of the region for over 20 years, author of The Lycian Way guidebook and founder of this famous route. Kate’s seven-night itinerary along the Turquoise Coast begins from a mountain hotel near Antalya, taking hikers down to the coast at Phaselis, a wonderfully preserved Graeco-Roman site; past secluded beaches to the Chimaera (the eternal flame of legend); and onto the ruins at Olympus. The last part, along an untamed coastline, is lonely and thrilling and ends at the lighthouse of Kilidonya. (Istanbul or Cappodocia can be tagged onto this trip).
Price includes accommodation with breakfast daily, four evening meals, five picnics, luggage transfers between hotels, and detailed background information.

Northern Portugal, £650 pp
Enjoy the golden hills and centuries-old villages of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, passing long-horned cattle and distinctive granite espigueiros (storage buildings) en route to wild uplands, chomp on the local bacalhau (dried and salted cod) and march along one of Europe’s most scenic Roman roads, set high above a valley.  In autumn there’s the added attraction of the annual grape harvest, and its many scents and sounds which enliven the lands, while Porto, where the trip concludes, will be relatively free of tourists. The accommodation includes a magnificent former-monastery.
Price includes accommodation with breakfast daily, one evening meal, six picnics, luggage transfers between hotels, and detailed background information.

On Foot Holidays also features routes in France, Austria, Croatia, Italy, the UK, Slovenia and Spain. As a member of AITO (the Association of Independent Tour Operators), On Foot Holidays guarantees its customers’ financial protection as well as complying with AITO’s quality and sustainable tourism guidelines.
