Chilean Teens Teach Robotics Workshop in Hualañe, Chile

Oct. 5, 2011 - PRLog -- Santiago, Chile – Corazon de Chileno (Chilean Heart), Chile's national youth robotics team, announced that they have completed another successful robotics workshop in Hualañe, Chile at Liceo Hualañe.  Hualañe is a small town located in the 7th Region, (Maule Region), about 350 km south of Santiago.

The workshop was part of the mission for Corazon de Chileno (http://www.Corazondechileno.cl) to expand STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) education and opportunities to all students in Chile. Liceo Hualañe is the only school in the town of Hualañe.

Liceo Hualañe learned about Corazon de Chileno after making their first trip to the annual interscholastic competition hosted at Universidad Andrés Bello. Thousands of students from around Chile travel to Santiago to compete in a high-stakes tournament, by building and programming little robots.

“In Chile one of our main troubles, as a society, is that everything is in Santiago. People in the regions often say “Santiago No es Chile” (Santiago is not Chile!),” stated Corazon de Chileno team leader, 19 year old Bastián Palacio. “As Chilean Heart, we work in Santiago, but it is extremely important to travel around Chile, spreading our way of working, infusing science, technology and engineering everywhere.”

Inspired by the presentation, Gladys, a student from Liceo Hualañe, decided to join the robotics team and will work with Corazon de Chileno in preparation for the 2012 FIRST Robotics Season. The team is now preparing for the international qualifiers and championship to be hosted in Los Angeles, CA and St. Louis, MO, respectively. They are currently seeking sponsorships and strategic partners.
