Oct. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- A lot of people do ask me as how to get their websites on top of search engines. I do reply them in two ways –
1) You want your website to be on top naturally
2) Or you want the same through artificial process
The answer of the client is that we want on top and they barely cares which option we choose.
In this post I will give the picture as how the link building services proved to be a key element in ranking.
I have been working in the internet marketing industry since 1999 and found that like any industry it’s also a transitional thing. Search engines were created to crawl the web and produce the information to the searcher quickly and effectively.
Search was constituted just to save time as earlier we use to have business directory where the user has to browse manually in order to locate the information they are looking for. Besides business directories were searchable within inside and again it was limited to few websites.
Hence with the advent of search engines, to search for a stuff is just a matter of seconds or milliseconds. We can to some extend compare the search with nanotechnology where we have tons of stuff molded into a very miniature block.
With search comes the money as usual. All search engines have monetized their search results. Indeed they are making a good money through other peoples content. Really search is very innovative and minded business which has created millions of opportunities to others as well.
Now back to our post theme which should explain the importance of “Links”.
To understand this we need to go and check the mathematical algorithm of search engines. Yahoo, Bing, Google and others as well are built on almost similar grounds with minor differences. I would take the example of google here as it’s the leading one.
Let me explain this in very simplified manner, google says that the person who has the maximum votes wins in the election so will be the website which has the maximum votes (backlinks) will be on top of search engines. It concluded that as many backlinks you have, the more is the chances of your website getting appear in search engines.
So google coined the term page rank for its algorithm and there is a formula behind that. (I am not putting in there as its bit complex math).
With this people for their websites hired link building companies to get the links so that they can be ranked easily, no matter what’s the competition, they can pay anything for ‘n’ number of links. This was successful for a very long time but later search engine experts at google realize that their algorithm has been misused and it lost its natural entity.
According to google the websites which are linked naturally without paid links should be on top. (Guys you must be aware that Wikipedia comes on top for almost all keywords we have in the dictionary, the reason is a purely natural way it has adopted to get backlinks).
Personally I haven’t find if Wikipedia has ever hired SEO or link builder!
Google then created its strong filters which could detect spam and find who is using a black hat (negative ways) or white hat (positive ways) for boosting their link juice. Since 2004 google has been doing a lot of updates to its algorithm and the crawler. Today google is a semantic search and has artificial intelligence applied to it but still there might be several loopholes which spammers can manipulate.
It’s perfectly true that link building is very important in getting your website uplifted but it should be treated in a very natural manner. We must all try to get the white hat ways towards it like writing some quality stuff for others irrespective of buying PR links blindly.
Being in SEO I do link building and try to keep in white hat radar, although there are client who knows some SEO and say,
Hey man “Why do not you do grey hat”……. Which is again a middle path between black and white hat.
Grey hat includes directory submissions, generic blog comments, general social bookmarking, Dummy facebook and twitter pages. The aim is just to get a link and nothing else.
I really cannot end this post as there is lot of things I can refer and explain but this is just a post and not a novel hence I would like to end with my statement.
We must try to be qualitative or at least to some level but never degrade ourselves to achieve our goals. If we do adopt this we will surely win the markets, no matter what the competition is.
