Senator Edward Meyer Tours Munger Construction Headquarters

Sept. 29, 2011 - PRLog -- Branford, CT; State Senator Edward Meyer recently toured Pat Munger Construction's headquarters along with area sustainable energy manufacturing leaders to learn how to catalyze solar energy to become a financially sustainable industry in Connecticut.  The group hosted by David DeMaio, Munger's President, included Ben Kaplan, CFO of SolarUS Inc., Thomas Massaro, Owner of Innovative Engineering Services, and Gus Kellogg, CEO of GreenLeaf Biofuels, Inc., and Jeffrey Lendroth, Munger's Sustainable Energy Consultant.

Tour members learned about the recently approved comprehensive energy reform bill (SB 1243) signed by Governor Malloy on July 1. "Through the new bill and the synergy of companies like the ones present in this tour, it's our hope to have a booming solar energy business here in Connecticut", stated Senator Meyer. "We’re really listening for the first time in a long time.”

Currently the payback for business owners who invest in solar technology is more than 12 years. A goal of the new bill is to reduce that to as low as five years.

According to Lendroth, “Connecticut offers an opportunity to offset the highest energy costs in the country – second only to Hawaii. If you can invest in a solar energy array with a seven to eight year payback, you can reap the benefits for 25 to 30 years”.
