UNCFSP to Host Diversity Job Fair Online

UNCFSP Seeks to Link Diverse Candidates With Industry Opportunities Through Its Virtual Job Fair

Sept. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Washington, DC – It is no secret that the job market is tough right now. Nationally, the unemployment rate continues to rise, hitting a staggering 9.1% in August, 2011. But for some, the challenge is even greater. According to the Department of Labor, the African American unemployment rate is at 16.7% with Hispanics at 11.3%. Recognizing the disparity in unemployment and the challenges faced by companies struggling to build a diverse workforce, the UNCF Special Programs Corporation (UNCFSP) is working to bridge the gap between a strong, higher-educated, diverse talent pool, and industry across the board.

UNCFSP will host an online virtual job fair on Tuesday, October 18, from 11AM to 5PM EST, providing the opportunity for employers to reach a diverse and capable workforce and for professionals to find jobs with the best companies. Participants will not have to go anywhere; they just need a computer and a connection to the Internet to attend; saving considerable time, money, and effort required in attending a traditional job fair. In this online environment, the UNCFSP Virtual Job Fair will offer the ultimate in convenience, cost-effectiveness, and interaction.

Michael Hester, Interim President and CEO of UNCFSP, during a workforce development strategic planning session noted, “This job fair will be an excellent opportunity for organizations seeking to attract talented, diverse candidates and underscore their commitment to building more inclusive workplaces,” he stated. "Diversity and inclusion in the workplace are essential to remain competitive in the increasingly global economy. This job fair successfully provides a link between forward thinking companies and talented professionals."

Best of all, attendees will be able to do everything they would do at a traditional job fair, including interviews via live chat and video chat, so employers and candidates can communicate in real time on the Internet. Job seekers will be able to use the virtual environment to learn more about the participating employers, watch videos, download documents, apply to specific job postings, and chat live in group and private chats. Potential candidates will also have the opportunity to upload and submit their work histories and/or resumes online for immediate employer review.

Although the job fair emphasizes a focus on candidates from multicultural and diverse backgrounds, the event is open for all qualified candidates to attend.
