East Sussex Primary Schools’ new broadband network from BT and MLL Telecom

Sept. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- It’s every public sector treasurer’s dream – a vastly improved service at the same cost as before. In this case, the new service in question is the managed radio wave broadband network connecting all the main offices and 174 primary schools in the East Sussex Council area.

The council’s Next Generation Network ( NGN ) delivers faster connections by using a combination of fibre and radio antenna-based services which provide a very substantially improved e-learning capacity with total security and blocks on unsuitable websites. Despite all these attributes, the network will not involve any higher demands on school budgets.

The new network, provided by BT in partnership with public sector network specialist,  MLL Telecom, is designed to help the East Sussex schools achieve national technology standards and supply the capacity for future developments in e-learning, learning platforms and educational ICT systems across the county, such as the potential for voice over IP (VoIP) and video conferencing.

This NGN project is proving so cost-effective because speeds and bandwidth can be increased as and when required. Moreover, the council has the option to extend the service to another 130 of its sites as and when required. The network itself incorporates MLL Telecom’s point-to –point wireless connectivity featuring low powered, narrow beam connections between roof - mounted antennas. An added advantage of this system is that, unlike mobile phone networks, it does not provide the blanket coverage with which health problems have been associated.

It’s not quite more for less but more for the same is a good start in today’s climate of public sector budgetary constraints.
