Sept 20th 2011 : Los Angeles.
GoldiloX, a new nomadic electropop band based between Los Angeles and Bali, Indonesia, has created a music video and digital single to pay tribute to all those who supported the repeal of the Act, and to honor those forced out of their employment since its enactment in 1993. The timing of GoldiloX’s debut single comes just as the controversial federal law dubbed “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” (DADT) is to be officially scrapped, after almost two decades of controversial and acrimonious federal court appeals.
DADT has been the cause of almost 14000 military dismissals since its introduction, and has caused untold disruption and suffering to many, including those that remained in service regardless of their sexual orientation. The scrapping of the legislation has found widespread support, both within the military, and in the broader population as a whole.
On September 9, 2010, Judge Virginia A. Phillips ruled that the ban was unconstitutional, as a violation of the First and Fifth Amendments.
A congressional bill to repeal DADT was enacted in December of 2010, specifying that the policy would remain in place until the President, the Secretary of Defense, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff certified that the repeal would not harm military readiness, followed by a 60-day waiting period. A July 6, 2011 ruling from a federal appeals court barred further enforcement of the U.S. military's ban on openly gay service members. President Obama, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, and Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, sent that certification to Congress on July 22, 2011, setting the end of DADT for September 20, 2011.
Goldilox lead singer and co-author David Browning has called the single “A celebration of an internationally relevant human rights precedent.”
About GoldiloX
GoldiloX is an internationally active electropop partnership founded by David Browning and Don Albert. GoldiloX are due to release their debut album ‘Homosexuals and the lies they tell us.’ on Paradise Studios, an independent label based in Singapore. The album consists of 14 original tracks written and produced by Browning and Albert. Final mixing and mastering was done on the tropical island of Bali by Simon Cotsworth (UK) who has over 20 years experience in the music industry working with a diverse list of artists (including Janet Jackson, The Pet Shop Boys, and, Faithless.) Accompanying the album will be a set of video-single releases created by the Bali Brand Consultancy. The album is set to be available for international digital distribution in November 2011 through iTunes and a number of online music aggregators.
Homosexuals and the lies they tell us is a personal journey towards self-acceptance, a celebration of individuality, and most importantly, a 21st Century pop-culture statement. It contains numerous up-beat dance anthems as well as reflective ballads that illustrate the depth and diversity of GoldiloX as songwriters and artists. A sense of playful irony runs throughout the album as is evident by the album’s title that refers to anti-gay propaganda, yet at the same time is literal, in terms of much of the heartfelt storytelling within.
GoldiloX’s Don Albert asserts, “Homosexuals and the lies they tell us is something totally new in terms of honest pop storytelling.”
David Browning is a medical doctor who currently works as the Ship’s Physician aboard a cruise liner based in Los Angeles. He studied piano and violin from a young age and has extensive experience with choral groups. He has been interested in songwriting from an early age and has twice been a winner in songoftheyear.com’s annual songwriting competition in the collected works category. He functions as lead vocalist and instrumentalist in addition to writing/production.
Don Albert is an internationally acclaimed architect who was trained in saxophone and piano since a young age, but who migrated into the world of electronic music production in the early 1990s due to the advancement of technology around that time, and his burgeoning interest in dance music. In 2010 Albert relocated to Bali, in order to build a ‘recording resort’ destination hotel, where the album “Homosexuals…” was ultimately completed.
David Browning met Don Albert via a mutual friend in 2008 in Cape Town South Africa, where they instantly recognized their shared passion for both theatrical and serious electronic music and thus GoldiloX was born. The release of Homosexuals and the lies they tell us is the culmination of more than 2 years worth of inspired experimentation and hard work.
Don’t Ask Don’t Tell
The first music video and single release is the track Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell which will coincide with the end of the DADT-era (20 September 2011 – the date that DADT is officially repealed.) The music video shows Browning narrating the news that DADT has been repealed but with subtitles that are actually the lyrics of the song. Don’t Ask Don’t Tell It is a celebration of the victory of the LGBT community and many other notable celebrities such as Lady Gaga who have fought for its repeal.
GoldiloX and Paradise Studios have decided on an experimental internet marketing approach involving traditional print media, television, youtube.com, facebook and other social media in order to promote Homosexuals and the lies they tell us.
