Sept. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- Key journalists and industry personnel were invited to take part in this inaugural event to see, first-hand, how safety and teamwork training can save money for organisations in the long term, creating greater profits, reducing the risk of injury and helping to build a more content, motivated and productive workforce.

WrightWay’s Managing Director, Captain John Wright, said, “This event was so important for us because it showed to well-respected journalists and members of the industry what we do. I have been delivering Human Factors training personally for 15 years and I’ve lost count of the number of people who have written to me saying it was the best training course they have ever attended. But we have been very poor at sharing this success story and so the purpose of today is to bring this to a wider audience via the press and some of our clients. We wanted guests to get a feel for why they would want to invest in simulator training, the cost effectiveness of doing it and how it can it can be developed onto a higher plain of whole company cultural change.

“We offer experiential learning, where we’re trying to change people’s attitudes, beliefs and values. That’s tough, because people don’t like it. But by using a marine simulator, you hold a giant mirror up in front of them. The delegates don’t feel threatened, they don’t feel ‘got at’ and you can use the exercises on the simulator to reflect on their own performance to recognise what could have been done in a more effective way, or giving confidence that they are a clear communicator and great team player.”

The event focused on Human Factors training, which is one of the most popular courses offered by WrightWay. Simon Flitch, a trainer at WrightWay, says, “Human Factors training concentrates on improving the attitudes and behaviours of individuals and their impact on safety. It provides the opportunity for people to examine their own behaviour and make individual decisions on how to improve their teamwork. Companies who take this type of training seriously are now seeing real cost benefits. We don’t want to put the training into practice after the incident – that’s expensive. What is key is to implement this type of training now, to prevent the accident happening in the first place.”

WrightWay’s first open day coincided with the launch of the brand new Transas simulator training facility in Portsmouth. Peter Mantel, Deputy Managing Director of the Transas Group, said, “It’s a privilege to co-host this event with WrightWay and we are honoured that WrightWay has selected our facilities and technology to enhance its training and consultancy programmes. Everything we do at Transas is safety orientated – all of our products are developed to improve safety at sea, so there is a lot of synergy with WrightWay and that’s helped to cement our strategic partnership.”

WrightWay was established in 2000 by founding partner and Managing Director Captain John Wright. WrightWay’s team of expert consultants have a broad range of skills and experience from many industry sectors including shipping, manufacturing, aviation and defence. The team is based in the UK, though they often work overseas with WrightWay's international clients.
