Sept. 6, 2011 - PRLog -- Golfers can put their putting skills to the test in the first annual U.S. Putting Tour Championship being held at The Crossings at Carlsbad in Carlsbad, California, September 26 – October 2.

This national putting championship is open to all golfers 13 years of age and older. This includes men and women, amateurs and professionals, all of whom will compete together for the title of America’s Best Putter and the beautiful USPT Championship crystal trophy.

Those golfers who want to compete for money will vie for the $10,000 first prize and a shot at $100,000 by qualifying for a 2012 World Putting Tour Championships event. Top amateurs will be able to earn merchandise prizes up to $750 in retail value, in accordance with USGA rules on Amateur Status.

The Championship consists of three rounds of putting all played on The Crossings’ large, two-tiered practice putting green. Participants can choose to play their first round on any one of the first six days of the tournament: from Monday, September 26 through Saturday, October 1.

A total of 72 golfers will advance from first round play to Championship Sunday, October 2. In Round 2, the 72 golfers will play 36 holes, after which the field will be cut to the low 24 scores for Round 3 on Sunday afternoon.
Spots are filling up for certain first round days and times, so golfers are encouraged to enter now at http://www.usputtingtour.com.

Among the early entrants is Jeremy Poincenot, a 21-year old golfer who lost his eyesight three years ago due to a rare genetic disease. Jeremy won the 2010 World Blind Golf Championship with his father caddying for him and he hopes to do well in the USPT Championship.

Also entered is “Mr. 365”, Ken Norton, who recently won a golf promotion by playing at least 18 holes of golf for 365 consecutive days. Apparently Ken is well rested and ready to tackle the USPT Championship.

A portion of proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad.
