Peter Bogdanovich, Legendary Director-producer-writer To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

Festival is set for September 14-18
TEMECULA ---- It was hardly his last movie, but 40 years ago THE LAST PICTURE SHOW was nominated for eight Academy Awards and catapulted director Peter Bogdanovich, who was nominated for three of the gold statues for his film, to the top of the his profession. Dozens of honors and highly acclaimed films later, Bogdanovich will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 17th Annual Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival’s Black Tie Gala on Sunday, Sept. 18th, at Pechanga Resort & Casino. The festival runs from Sept. 14-18.

Bogdanovich will be honored along with Academy Award nominated actress Virginia Madsen, Hollywood Icon Connie Stevens, Writer Producer Director Oren Peli of Paranormal Activity fame, legendary Music Producer Russ Regan, DVD and Blu Ray Manufacturing Technology pioneer Erick Hansen and highly sought after Film Orchestrator and Arranger Pete Anthony.
Past award recipients include Gena Rowlands, Ray Charles, Kenny Loggins, Michael York, Smokey Robinson, Carl Reiner, Lalo Schifrin, William Shatner, Etta James and Shirley Jones.
Bogdanovich began his career as an actor, studying under legendary acting teacher Stella Adler and appearing in summer stock and on television, before turning to directing Off-Broadway plays.

In 1971 he directed then unknowns Jeff Bridges and Cybil Shepherd in THE LAST PICTURE SHOW, a brilliant look at 1950s life in small Texas town. That film was recently designated a National Treasure by the Library of Congress.
Bogdanovich was considered part of the “new wave” of Hollywood directors that included George Lucas, Martin Scorsese, Brian DaPalma and Steven Spielberg.
For more than 25 years Bogdanovich was responsible for a string of classic American films including WHAT’S UP DOC, starring Barbara Streisand and Ryan O’Neal, PAPER MOON starring Ryan O’Neal and his daughter Tatum O’Neal, which was nominated for four Academy Awards, DAISY MILLER, SAINT JACK, and THEY ALL LAUGHED, Audrey Hepburn’s last film.
In 1985 Bogdanovich scored another major triumph with MASK, starring Eric Stoltz and Cher, who won an Academy Award for Best Actress for the role.
More recent projects have included NOISES OFF, THE CAT’S MEOW, THE MYSTERY OF NATALIE WOOD and the hard-hitting docudrama HUSTLE about baseball player Peter Rose.
He also returned to his acting roots, playing a psychiatrist for four seasons on the HBO series THE SOPRANOS.
In addition to his cinematic work, Bogdanovich has published more than a dozen books on various aspects of filmmaking.

The 17th annual Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival takes place Sept. 14-18, 2011 at Ultrastar Tower 10 in the Tower Plaza Shopping Center. The festival is presented by Cinema Entertainment Alliance, a non-profit arts and education organization dedicated to celebrating world cinema and music. In 2010 over 300 filmmakers, musicians, producers, directors, writers, judges, composers, arrangers, agents, publicists, cast and crew participated in the festival, which was attended by more than 18,000 people.
