Aug. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Return with us to the 12th century when King Richard of England left his country to join the crusaders in an attempt to reform the world.  Thus began a time when people were no longer treated with the respect and dignity they deserved.  During his absence the kingdom was left in the hands of his vile brother, Prince John, and the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham.  With no regard for feelings or life, these rulers abused their power, demanding more of the people than they could bear.  The two began to wreak havoc on the lowly peasants and to devise schemes to bring the noble of the land under their control.  Had these two devious leaders been left alone, over time they would have succeeded.

Fortunately there was hope among them, a hero if you will.  He was known in the land as an outlaw, robbing from the rich while giving to the poor.  His name was Robin Hood.  The legend is one of the oldest surviving stories ever told.  For hundreds of years the accounts of the most famous outlaw that ever lived was kept alive simply by telling the story.  Then those accounts were recorded to preserve the intriguing events of a larger than life hero.

The story of Robin Hood and his Merry Men is one of the most filmed in the history of Hollywood.  It seems we cannot get enough of the legend of an outlaw who chose to rob from the rich and give to the poor.  What is so intriguing about this man?  What sets him apart from all the rest?

Well, for starters, this legend has survived the test of time – more than 800 years to put it mildly.  The setting for this unique individual is during the dark ages, a time we know very little about.  It was during the Middle Ages that books were being burned, records destroyed, and precious paintings tossed upon the flames.  Valuable history was prevented from reaching our generation because of these mysterious acts.  But, a few of those events survived, legends if you prefer, in the form of stories told by eye witnesses.  Generation after generation those historical events have been preserved through the art of storytelling.  Now that we have the story, we would like to know who they are in reference to.  That’s why the legend of Robin Hood and his Merry Men has evolved into a classic, one enjoyed by all.

For centuries historians have attempted to connect the legends about this character to a specific person, but those attempts have proven to be illusive.  There are more than half a dozen names that came up, any of which could have been the legendary Robin Hood.  However, after much research and thought, a solution to the dilemma has been discovered.  There is no beginning and no end to the legend of Robin Hood for it is bigger than the man himself.
