| Topoffootpain.org Released to Offer Help of Home Diagnosis of Foot ProblemsTop of foot pain is a common complaint, but is one that is not well understood by the general public. The latest website release aims to dispel fears by improving understanding of the common foot problems affecting the top of the foot.
By: Sixthdegree “There is commonly confusion about when to apply heat treatment and when cold therapy is appropriate, and getting it wrong can make many conditions far worse” says Jennifer Lee, creator of topoffootpain.org. It is one of the primary care treatments she has decided to cover as part of her new website. The new website also explains in detail many of the first line treatments which should be applied to the feet when injuries are sustained, such as the RICE method of treatment. Starting treatment immediately following an injury can rapidly relieve pain, reduce swelling and inflammation and make sure that an injury does not deteriorate. It is Lee’s aim to dispel some of the myths about foot pain by increasing knowledge about foot problems. “Many people know about the common causes of heel pain, but when it comes to top of foot pain it’s more of a mystery” says Lee. “Improving knowledge of likely causes of foot pain helps to speed up a visit to the doctor, and I hope will put many minds at rest knowing the likely causes of their pain” Whilst top of foot pain may not be as common or as easy to identify as pain in the toes or heel, top of foot pain is still a common complaint. Many people leave foot pain for some time before deeming it necessary to make an appointment to visit a doctor, and this can greatly increase the time it takes to recover from a problem. Soldiering on in the hope that the pain will abate is never a wise move, as Jennifer points out. “whilst a couple of days is usually not a problem, when the days turn into weeks, foot problems can seriously deteriorate and the recovery time and cost of treatment invariably increases” The new website covers the most common causes of top of foot pain including metatarsal stress fractures, nerve entrapment and midtarsal faults, but also delves into the less well known causes such as cuboid syndrome. This condition is often misdiagnosed initially, and providing information on the symptoms is intended to help people understand more about the condition and get a rapid diagnosis. The new website offers a comprehensive insight into the full range of conditions affecting the top of the foot, and whilst not exhaustive at the launch, it covers the majority of problems which are likely to be suffered. When asked if there are any plans to develop the website, Jennifer points out that the current release is only the start, and a rapid expansion is planned to cover primary treatments in more detail, and to provide information about alternative treatment programs for each of the conditions covered on the website.
