Aug. 19, 2011 - PRLog -- Are the telecommunications dinosaurs like AT&T, who has been around since the telegraph, doomed to extinction? Some of the news of late would tend to indicate that this may be the case; the elite of the DotCom billionaires positioning themselves to be the kings of the new communications age. In recent months we have seen numerous forays into the communications industry from the software and internet realm:

Just a couple of months ago, Microsoft served notice on the rest of the world that they saw the value in VOIP communications when they purchased Skype for nearly nine billion dollars. It is obvious that Gates and company see the value in a mobile future; the outgoing head of the Windows Phone project called it the best product Microsoft has ever developed. With the purchase of Skype it is quite obvious that Microsoft has more than just a passing interest in mobile communications.

Facebook just recently released their Facebook Mobile product and while they haven’t been connected to any major purchases of mobile communications software or device manufacturers, one should still keep a watchful eye on a company that has a rebellious twenty-something as a CEO.

Google just announced their biggest purchase ever, picking up Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion and leaving no doubt in anyone’s mind that the internet and wall street behemoth has its sights set on the mobile industry and pushing its Android brand of mobile devices and applications. While tech insiders seem to be connecting the dots, the stock market reacted unfavorably with financial analysts downgrading Google stock to “sell” status.
Google’s purchase of Motorola Mobility along with the thousands of patents that come with it, is just the latest in the “Patent Wars”, that have been going on between the big players, mainly Microsoft, Google, and Apple, with a little input from Samsung and Motorola here and there.

Apple has been aggressively going after other device makers for patent infringement violations all over the world, when coupled with the reports of the kinds of patents they are after and their interest in developing their own wireless networks it is quite obvious that Apple too has designs on the mobile communications market.

This eye opening new segment of the mobile communications industry is also opening the door for up and coming out of the box thinkers like those who comprise the team behind Smart Mouth Mobile. Led by a brilliant and prolific inventor, this handful of creative thinkers with no previous experience in the communications industry has been creating a virtual mobile empire right in the shadows of the ivory towers that control the market today.

It may take several months, or even a couple of years to see what industry giants, Microsoft, Google, and Apple have planned for the mobile market but Smart Mouth Mobile is releasing version 1.3 of their communications application, making it the first cross platform worldwide calling app that will not only support iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch but also Android & Blackberry while providing access to unlimited international calling at a penny a minute anywhere on the planet for ONLY $19.95 USD per year!
