| Sequoia Technology are Finalist in the EPD E-Legacy Awards 2011 with their SMS Printer TechnologyEPD (Electronic Product Design) announce finalists in their e-legacy awards 2011 programme. Sequoia Technology Group Ltd is a finalist in the "Medical Advances" Sector.
Sequoia has designed a system to allow central HIV test laboratories to print test results directly in any African rural clinic with GSM network coverage. The system utilises GPRS technology and simple thermal printers to vastly reduce the time and cost of transporting results from the laboratory to clinics from months to a few days. Sequoia ensured confidentiality, error free and guaranteed complete delivery of all test results within its complex gateway and automated monitoring software. The system is scalable on a continental scale. A central lab in each African country monitors the whole process and interrogates every clinic with results waiting to print but not printed. The system is very low cost and is entirely scalable. African countries such as Mozambique are expanding their abilities to diagnose and treat HIV mothers-to-be as the pass through of HIV from mother to child is around 40% if untreated and reduces to < 1% if treated before birth. Mozambique has now 235 regional clinics each with a Sequoia GPRS printer. The Sequoia system has helped at least 20,000 children since inception according to the MOH of Mozambique. The Clinton foundation is now installing thousands of Sequoia printers and software into Kenya, Botswana and Zimbabwe and other countries.
