PRLog -- Being a civilian organization comprised of volunteers, their job is to support all the USCG missions, outside of law enforcement or military combat operations. Auxiliarists who own a boat, aircraft or radio station often utilize their equipment on behalf of the USCG. Now dont take these guys lightly, as they are a well-trained extension of the U.S. Coast Guard and are often called to duty. When under orders, an Auxiliary member is recognized as a Federal employee, fully trained and ready to serve.
As of May 2010, there are approximately 30,000 active Auxiliarists. Called upon during the Hurricane Katrina and Rita disasters, the Auxiliary was instrumental in aiding the U.S. Coast Guard in rescue efforts.
