Trust God to Make Your Impossible Dream Possible

Dr. Russ shows how you can achieve the unachievable and make your impossible dream possible with the audacious faith described in Steven Furtick's writings, Moment-to-Moment Optimism, and trust in God.

Aug. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- Today is Dr. Russ Busster Day, and I am fired up about telling you the good news of the impossible dream.  Impossible dreams are the most powerful tools we have to counteract pessimism and stay in the 90%-Plus Optimism Zone.

First let’s begin with a Dr. Russ childhood story:

When I was 7 or 8 years old, I began talking with my Dad about building an airplane out of wood, mounting an engine of some sort, and flying from Philadelphia to Florida.  Perhaps he thought he didn’t want to squelch my positive, dream big, accomplish anything you put your mind to attitude; a key life perspective he took every opportunity to teach me.  Or, perhaps he thought he would humor me until the impossible just dissipated. Nevertheless, his lack of initial discouragement and then engaged encouragement brought us to the brink of going to the lumber yard to make the purchase for needed building materials one Spring, Saturday morning.  We had conjured up an impossible dream; one that obviously would have been foolhardy and life threatening had we followed through somehow.

On Friday night after a long dinner table conversation, we had a plan and I went to bed dreaming of flying with Dad as his co-pilot to Florida.  I do not know what happened over night while sugarplanes danced in my head, but when I woke my parents out of a sound sleep the next morning at 7 am sharp, Saturday morning, it was clear they had changed their minds.  Now my mother was weighing in.  Actually, they never said it was a really bad idea, WHICH IT WAS, they just said it wasn’t workable at this point in time.  They explained my dad didn’t have the requisite pilot’s license, and the FAA, whatever that was I remember thinking, had to approve the plan.

I was disappointed, of course, but mostly I remember how they never let me feel foolish or put me down for a wild and crazy and yes IMPOSSIBLE idea.  I came around to realizing the impossibility, at least at the time, and we laughed and enjoyed the memories of the creative moments, planning and fantasy we had together as father and son.  Later that year, for my birthday, my dad got me a remote control airplane and we had quite a bit of fun flying that together.

No, I am not telling you this story because it launched a lifelong career in flying and aeronautics.  I am telling it to you because it launched a lifelong career in being an impossible dreamer and helping others to find their impossible dream and to MAKE IT HAPPEN.  The impossible dream is the seed of optimism!

Audacious Faith for Making the Impossible Possible

Last week I attended the Global Leadership Summit sponsored by Willow Creek Church in Barrington Illinois, and broadcast simultaneously and live by Satellite to participating churches around the world reaching  over 160,000 church leaders.  One of the speakers was a 32 year old Pastor, Steven Furtick, of a church in Charlotte NC, Elevation Church, which was started 5 years ago and now has 8000 members.  He also has written a book entitled: “Sun Stand Still - What Happens When you Dare to Ask God for the Impossible.”

The title is based on the prayer made by Joshua and answered by God on the eve of a day of uncompleted battle against the Amorites.  Joshua prayed (Joshua 12):

O sun, stand still over Gibeon,

O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon

So the sun stood still,

And the moon stopped, still the nation avenged itself on its enemies.

He challenges us to pray our own Sun Stand Still Prayers for the impossible needs in our lives including broken relationships, finances, career, spiritual breakthroughs, physical and emotional healing, loved ones, resisting and overcoming temptation, achieving goals, and finding and embracing your purpose in life.

Impossible Dream Bussters Based on the Audacious Faith preached by Steve Furtick

  1. Just as he did for Joshua, God answers, “Sun Stand Still Prayers,” but only if they are for unselfish reasons and His glory.  Audacious faith requires focusing on the specific impossibility God wants YOU to trust Him for in your life.  That’s right to get to the 90%-plus optimism zone you must trust God, first.
  2. Biblical audacity is a mind set that approaches God with confidence and believes him for the impossible.
  3. Audacious faith is an attitude and set of actions that are deeply rooted in, even required by your conviction that all things are possible through God!
  4. God likes to wet the wood before he sets it on fire. That way everybody knows who made it burn. (1 Kings 18:33-38).
  5. I like to think God conceals his extraordinary intentions in ordinary people to protect the extraordinary value of his purpose in our lives.
  6. Faith opens your eyes to see the potential to serve a God who is already at work on your behalf.

As I look back on my airplane building dream of age 7, I believe God would have found a way for Dad and I to get the “sun to stand still” while we built it if the plane was to be the work of God in us, for carrying out a mission of His through us, because we put our trust in Him to make-it-happen!
