Aug. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- Written by Vancouver artist and writer, Sandra Yuen MacKay, My Schizophrenic Life chronicles the onset of her symptoms of schizophrenia, her many hospitalizations, encounters with professionals, return to school, eventual marriage and success as an artist, writer and advocate.

Library Journal called the book "a surprisingly gripping narrative" that "will hold readers captive." That review said that the book would appeal to fans of Kay Redfield Jamison, author of An Unquiet Mind: A Memoir of Moods and Madness.

New York psychiatrist, Julie Holland, author of Weekends at Bellevue: Nine Years on the Night Shift at the Psych ER, said "there are precious few people who have experienced psychosis and can convey it accurately, clearly, and concisely....it is imperative that we take in the lessons she is imparting to us all, on how to manage, and in many ways, triumph over chronic mental illness".

Psychiatrist, author and film maker, David Laing Dawson, said she "puts the reader nicely in her shoes experiencing the paranoia, misinterpretations, hallucinations."

This is the second book by Bridgeross Communications to be recommended by NAMI. After Her Brain Broke: Helping My Daughter Recover Her Sanity by Susan Inman was also highly recommended in an earlier review. Both books are also recommended by the Mood Disorders Association of Canada while After Her Brain Broke is also recommended by EUFAMI in Europe.

Another Bridgeross title on the same topic, Schizophrenia: Medicine's Mystery Society's Shame, is recommended by the World Fellowship on Schizophrenia and Allied Disorders.

Bridgeross books are available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Chapters/Indigo in Canada and are distributed by Ingram.
