Aug. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Sanctuary One, a nonprofit care farm located in Jacksonville, Oregon is currently in eighth place in a national online voting contest where the top-five vote getters win an entire orchard of fruit trees and help planting the trees, too.

The contest is co-sponsored by Dreyer’s Fruit Bars and the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation of Pittsburg, Penn.

Sanctuary One needs to gain approximately 2,500 more votes before the contest ends on August 31 to finish in the top five. If the Sanctuary wins the orchard they will use it to help feed the Sanctuary’s herd of 50+ farm animals who have been rescued from situations of abuse, neglect, and abandonment.

Sanctuary One is the first nonprofit care farm in the United States. Care farms are farms where people, animals, and the earth work together for mutual healing. Care farming (also known as green care, farm care, or farming for health), is well established in Europe, but is a relatively new concept in the United States.
