Game Changer: Design Line Interiors sets new standard for home design at Sandalwood in Carlsbad

July 29, 2011 - PRLog -- Assembling an all-star team of landscape and design professionals, San Diego-based homebuilder ColRich has taken a bold stance in creating a new standard for production home design at its Sandalwood La Costa Oaks neighborhood in Carlsbad.

Under the direction of Dawn Davidson, president of Design Line Interiors, Sandalwood presents three game-changing designs that meld clean and contemporary with emotion and earthiness. The result is an environment of open living spaces, surprising volume and a seamless flow between the indoor and outdoor experience.

“ColRich challenged us to go beyond our comfort zone to walk that fine line between innovation and tradition,” says Sandalwood interior designer Davidson. “Throughout these homes, buyers will discover unique combinations of stone, glass and chrome with slick woods and worn leather. The result is a living space that is innovative, yet steeped in comfort and tradition. Floor plans are open and flowing and allow for all kinds of alternative uses and possibilities.”

Davidson, who this month was inducted into the California Homebuilding Foundation Hall of Fame, said ColRich assembled its team nearly two years ago to start conceptual planning. Joining Design Line in the process were project architects at Woodley Architectural Group and Burton Landscape Architecture Studio.

“ColRich carefully crafted its Sandalwood team and from day one, pushed us all to break down barriers, both literally and figuratively,” said Davidson. “We believe we hit all the right notes to illicit an emotional response from buyers the very first time they step through the front door.”

Sandalwood has not only captured the imagination of potential homebuyers, but veteran homebuilding industry professionals have been quick to praise the project’s standout interior design.

“The developer of Sandalwood thought it all through; all the parts work together beautifully,” says Mollie Carmichael, a principal with John Burns Real Estate Consulting of Irvine, Calif. “When you walk into the inside of these homes, it feels fantastic. Clearly this builder put more emphasis on the layout of the interiors and brought that indoor/outdoor experience together. I am so impressed with Sandalwood.”

Carmichael’s company recently completed a huge national consumer survey and tallied the results of over 10,000 responses.

“One of the big findings was how critical design is to today’s consumer and it’s really the interior layout and how you present the home,” she said. “Of 16 possible choices, the top three most important issues to potential buyers were home design, price and location.

“Sandalwood brings those three together. It’s a solid solution in a tough market,” Carmichael said.

ColRich opened Sandalwood in April and has three sales per month to date. Designed in Tuscan, Spanish and Santa Barbara themes, features include 10-foot ceilings, 12-foot vanishing sliding glass doors, interior courtyards and an overhead breezeway connecting the two wings of the home.

The 3,139-square-foot Residence 1 at Sandalwood is a bright and open floor plan featuring three bedrooms with loft/library and four baths.

The Residence 2 at Sandalwood is a 3,563-square-foot, four-bedroom-plus-loft, 4.5 bath home, with three-car garage.

The 3,684-square-foot Residence 3 is a five-bedroom, 4.5-bath home with bonus room, three-car garage and a layout that is built around a courtyard.

“The Residence 3 is configured in such a way that a number of activities can be going on at the same time – both indoors and out – and one might not even notice what was going on outside of his or her own focus,” Davidson said. “One of the things that came out in the John Burns survey was the importance of the indoor/outdoor relationship and using materials that bring that experience together.”

“We worked many long nights and weekends on this project, and the end result really comes from the heart,” Davidson said. “ColRich had a vision that they could stimulate the market by creating a truly invigorating new home community.  And that’s what Sandalwood has accomplished.”
