July 29, 2011 - PRLog -- So where has this custom come from?  Afternoon was originally introduced by Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford in the year 1840. In those days, it was commonplace to only have two meals; breakfast and dinner. As a result, the Duchess frequently complained of a ‘sinking feeling’ in the afternoon and created an excellent solution – a pot of tea and light snack to be enjoyed privately in her boudoir.

Later, the Duchess began to invite friends along in the afternoon and it wasn’t long before other social hostesses latched on to the idea. Eventually, the practice became presentable enough to take place in main drawing rooms and before long the whole country was assembling in small afternoon gatherings especially for a spot of tea-drinking.

To celebrate this much loved tradition, Red Letter Days are offering 20% off their unique range or Afternoon tea experiences. With a whole host of beautiful locations, you can enjoy a relaxing afternoon of snacking and tea-drinking with a loved one.

You might enjoy the splendour of Grosvenor House in London, a five-star luxurious hotel situated in Mayfair. This experiences includes a vast selection of sandwiches, scones and of course tea all served in the beautiful Park Room.

Alternatively, you might like to combine your tea-drinking with a little champagne-drinking! Rowhill Grange is the setting for a glorious afternoon of home-baked treats, sandwiches and tea before your afternoon is topped off with a delicious chilled glass of champagne. Rowhill Grange offers stunning views of the Kent countryside for you to enjoy whilst enjoying your traditional English afternoon tea.

For a trip that little extra bit special, there is now a wonderful gift experience available for you and your family at the World of Beatrix Potter in Cumbria. These days ‘afternoon tea’ has been reduced to little more than a mug of Tetley, a custard cream and an afternoon in front of the television. But instead, why not join in British Afternoon Tea (http://www.redletterdays.co.uk/Experience/Gourmet/Afterno...) Week and revert back to tradition?
